In this 1978 “slasher” classic, Michael Meyers, a homicidal maniac, escapes from an asylum and heads for his hometown of Smith’s Grove. He is pursued by one of the physicians who was treating him. Arriving in town on Halloween, Michael begins to stalk and kill innocent teenagers. Meyers appears terrifying because of a white plastic mask he wears over his face. Ultimately, the madman faces Laurie, an innocent babysitter, who dares to fight back. The film was a big success and spawned a number of sequels. The director was John Carpenter. And Jamie Lee Curtis, as Laurie, became an overnight star.
