If there is one film that epitomizes the term “film noir” this is it. The grim story features Kathie Moffett, one of the most villainous women ever to be depicted in a black and white murder mystery. She is a thief, a liar, a seductress and a murderer. Robert Mitchum, as Jeff Markham, is hired by a powerful gangster to track down Kathie who’s skipped town with the mob boss’s $40,000. Mitchum finds Kathie but falls under her spell. That utlimately leads to his doom. The despicable Kathie is played with seductive charm and grace by Jane Greer. The film also starred a young Kirk Douglas as the gangster.
