A mad bull, wounded by falling debris during the quake, charged through the streets of Chinatown, past tong rooms, joss houses, brothels and banner-hung bazaars, pursued by an angry mob of screaming Chinamen, until the crazed animal burst into Portsmouth Square where it was shot dead by a city policeman.  The bull that day was only one of many unfortunate dead animals littering the streets all over San Francisco.1906 dead horses in the street after quake
