There’s no question dynamiters roaming San Francisco after the great quake did little if any good.  The incessant blasting with dynamite just set more buildings afire and broke many windows. None of the soldiers setting these blasts even checked to see which way the wind was blowing.  And when their dynamite ran out, the soldiers resorted to what can only be classified as legalized arson.  Fire setting in the hands of these rank amateurs proved to be worse than doing nothing at all.
